Alternative Energy – How Does it Apply to Your Home and Community
You've heard lots about the needs for alternative energy---but how can you apply that information to your home and energy bill?
The League of Women Voters of Livingston and Livingston Living Green are sponsoring a program about Alternative Energy on Wednesday, April 15 at 8 pm at the Senior Community Center at 204 Hillside Ave. Learn how to apply energy saving techniques in your home, alternative energy options for your home and community and Clean Energy programs available in New Jersey.
Chris Bickel, chair of the energy conservation committee of Livingston Living Green will introduce the film “Kilowatt Ours.” Filmmaker Jeff Barrie offers hope as he turns the camera on himself and asks, “How can I make a difference?” In his journey Barrie explores the source of our electricity and the problems caused by energy production including mountain top removal, childhood asthma and global warming. Along the way he encounters individuals, businesses, organizations, and communities who are leading the way, using energy conservation, efficiency and renewable, green power all while saving money and the environment.
Don Newell, a professional engineer and Director of Engineering Services with EMCOR Energy Services, will give an overview on what alternative energy options are available to the Township of Livingston and review some of the New Jersey Clean Energy programs available to residents. Don is working with the Township on an Energy Audit of municipal facilities. He is also a member of the Livingston Living Green Team.
Livingston resident Richard Larsen will provide a case study of his experience participating in New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program’s Home Performance with Energy Star. He will describe how a home energy audit was performed and the energy saving recommendations provided to him by the certified technicians. He also will review the dollar savings he has experienced since implementing those recommendations.
