Welcome
to the website of Livingston's Office of Consumer Affairs, which
services not only the residents of Livingston, but provides services
to consumers throughout Essex County, the State of New Jersey,
and throughout the United States. The work of this office
touches the lives of local citizens nearly every day. Our mission
is simple: mediate disputes between residents and others with
local businesses, protect citizens from consumer fraud, blanket
the state with consumer education, and make our operations consumer-friendly
to the public when they contact us.
You may also make this website your personal resource for consumer
information on a host of subjects, as we will be regularly providing
news and information of a variety of subjects, as well as alerts
on the latest frauds and scams that may effect or be attempted
to be perpetrated on our residents and local businesses.
Few transactions that take place in today's marketplace go unregulated
by Consumer Affairs, both locally, throughout the State and/or
nationally. Many of the complaints we receive concern the purchase,
lease and repair of autos; home repair and improvement problems;
the purchase of home furnishings and appliances; securities, investment
and financial frauds (including the fast-growing problem of identity
theft); and telemarketing and Internet frauds.
If you believe you have been the victim of a fraud, or have a
complaint, we want to hear from you. You may reach us by using
the e-mail address and phone numbers located on our Contact
Information page, and you may file a complaint by
clicking on the Complaint
Forms link on this page.
You may check with the State Office of Consumer Affairs if you
have concerns about the qualifications or performance of any of
the more than half million people licensed in nearly 80 professions
and occupations regulated by their Professional and Occupational
Boards, simply by clicking on the link to their website. They
can tell you whether the license is current and whether any complaints
have been filed against the individual. A similar link is provided
to the Better Business Bureau website, where additional information
is available.
Besides information that will be posted here, the State Office
of Consumer Affairs allows you to review the State's Consumer
Fraud Act and other consumer protection laws, download consumer
education materials, link to other consumer sites, review statutes
and regulations, and more.
We are dedicated to being a consumer-friendly agency, and we encourage
you to take advantage of our many services.
