The Livingston League of Women Voters will hold a discussion about Sustainable Energy with Jeffrey Huppert on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 8 pm at the Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Ave, lower level.  The public is welcome to this free program.  At the conclusion there will be an opportunity to talk informally with the speaker.  Refreshments will be served.

This presentation examines the very real problems of changing to alternative energy sources.  Sustainable energy is only fifty years away if we start now!  The program is based on many of the concepts in Thom Hartmannn's book "Last Days of Ancient Sunlight."  The program traces the history of energy use in the USA, from wood to coal, and to petroleum and natural gas.  Some questions that will be discussed are: Is nuclear the answer?  Will "they" solve the problem for us?  What are the problems and adjustments society will need to make to avoid the energy mega-crisis?

Jeffrey Huppert is the education coordinator for the Loantaka Group of the New Jersey Chapter of the Sierra Club.  He is a retired high school science teacher who has taught all the sciences including advanced placement biology and environmental science.  He teaches at Kean University's summer environmental program for minority youth.  Huppert presents programs throughout northern New Jersey on a variety of environmental topics.
