The
Livingston Environmental Commission (LEC) was established
by ordinance in 1973. It consists of seven members, one
of whom shall also be member of the Planning Board, and
two alternates all of whom shall be township residents
and are appointed by the Mayor. The members study and
make recommendations to the Township Council on issues
relating to the protection, development or use of natural
resources, including water resources and open space,
located within the township. The LEC reviews the potential
environmental impacts of applications heard before the
Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment.
The mission of the Livingston Environmental
Commission is to provide leadership and vision
in support of all township activities involving
the protection, use and restoration of natural
resources and open space located within the township.
The Livingston
Environmental Commission and Open
Space Trust Fund Committee were awarded an ANJEC
Environmental Achievement Award from the Association
of New Jersey Environmental Commissions at its annual
Environmental Congress on October 21, 2005.
