Wear
something Red, and meet the town nurses at the
Livingston oval on Friday, February 2 from 2:00
till 2:30 PM (please be on time) for a half hour
walk to raise awareness about the risks of cardiovascular
disease and women. Following the walk, we will
decorate the trees on the Oval with red
ribbons to show our support for the “Go
Red for Women” campaign.
We will have educational material available
and remembrances such as the red dress
pins available for donations to this worthy
cause. Heart disease is the No.1
cause of fatalities for women. Red is a
symbol of women and heart disease but it
is more than just a color! It’s the
power of women - like all of us - investing
in our heart health.
It is fortunate that cardiac disease is mostly
preventable, so understanding the health
threats to heart disease can make a lifesaving
difference. Become empowered - educate
yourself and your family. Encourage a friend
to quit smoking, share heart healthy recipes
with aunts, grandmothers, sisters and friends.
Ask your Mom if she knows her cholesterol
levels. Promote a group walk with girlfriends
or family on a regular basis.
Simple ways to love your heart: Celebrate
your birthday with a yearly check-up with
your physician. Get up off the couch with
a regular exercise regime. Quit smoking,
drop a pound or ten until you get to a
heart-healthy weight. Remember, if it’s
hard to do weight loss alone, there are
a lot of programs with great support systems
out there to join. Become a label reader
to assist you in making healthy choices.
We need much more research on women and cardiovascular
disease. Love your heart and yourself!
That’s the message for “Go
Red for Women” campaign. If everyone
can make a promise to be heart-healthy,
we can wipe out heart disease! Looking
forward to seeing you on February
2, 2007 at the Oval.
