NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH

The Livingston Township Council will declare September as National Preparedness Month at its September 6 meeting. Read the proclamation

National Preparedness Month highlights the importance of being prepared for emergencies. This program was developed by the American Red Cross and the US Department of Homeland Security.

Residents are urged to take time during September to get an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan, be informed about different threats and their appropriate responses, and get involved in preparing their community.

The Red Cross "Make a Plan" page describes how to make a family preparedness plan. For example: "During an emergency, the more you have planned ahead of time, the calmer and more assured you and your family will be. These six steps will help you through the process: Talk, Plan, Learn, Check Supplies, Tell, Practice." Another page in the Red Cross site provides information about preparing a Disaster Supplies Kit.

The National Preparedness Month site explains the initiative and contains additional information and links. This page is under the auspices of the Department of Homeland Security.
