PSE&G announces gas bill credit to be included in February bills - On top of 35 percent total savings since January 2009

    Summary:
PSE&G announced today that it is providing a bill credit to be included in February residential gas bills. The bill credit will be 15 cents per therm on all February usage.

WHAT does THIS MEAN FOR CUSTOMERS?

    • This gas bill credit means that residential customers who use 200 therms in the month of February will see a reduction of $30.00 included in their bills. Depending on meter reading dates, many customers will see some of the reduction in February and the rest in March.
    • The ability to offer a bill credit is the result of technology enhancements PSE&G has made to its customer system.
    • This latest action by PSE&G is in addition to the eight gas supply rate decreases in a row for residential customers, for a total of more than $614, or 35 percent, in savings since January, 2009.
    • Lower market prices for gas, which are partially due to the availability of abundant and lower cost shale gas, have made it possible for PSE&G to pass along these rate decreases to customers.

What can customers do to manage their winter heating costs?

In addition to the bill credit, PSE&G offers suggestions for steps customers can take to help reduce their winter heating costs even further:

    • Visit PSE&G’s Home Energy Toolkit at www.pseg.com/toolkit. You can calculate the energy efficiency of your home and find out how to save energy and money on appliances and heating systems.
    • Lower your thermostat by just one degree, which may reduce your heating bill by up to 3 percent. Save even more by lowering your thermostat 2 degrees during the day and 5 to 10 degrees at bedtime if health conditions permit. Clean or replace the furnace filter on hot air heating systems.
    • If your budget permits, install (or have installed) a programmable thermostat that you can set to automatically lower room temperatures when rooms are not in use and also at bedtime if health conditions permit.
