October 21, 2007 SkateFest
The Livingston Skatepark Committee, under
the auspices of HCHY, held a SkateFest on October 21, 2007
to reinforce the value of healthy physical activity through
the sports of skateboarding, rollerblading, and BMX biking
and to bring awareness to the Committee’s current fundraising
efforts. The event
drew an estimated 500 community members, from youngsters to
senior citizens.
According to Andrew Hines, the SkatePark
Committee’s volunteer professional consultant, "It's
one thing when you tell people how well the generations mingle
together and actually talk and help each, but it's another
to experience it." He continued by saying, "Kudos
to the Committee for organizing such an event that allowed
Livingston families an
unchoreographed sample
of the experience. We
are very impressed with the HCHY Teen Committee
in their process of trying to do something meaningful
for their own peers in Livingston. You just don't see
that in many communities.”
All money raised
through this event and future donations will be matched up
to $30,000 through a generous challenge grant from the United
Way of North Essex Livingston Community Fund. To learn
