FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS OF THE WATER DEPARTMENT
Q. I recently had work done by a plumber and now the
water is cloudy and looks like skim milk. What do I do?
A. That condition is normally caused by air pockets
in the line and the remedy is to let the faucets run briefly (approximately
one minute).
Air pockets in the line create the white water; if
you see discolored water - anything from brown to rust to yellow, DO NOT
USE HOT WATER! Let the cold water run. This discolored water is from
the iron content that was disturbed from the main pipe in the middle
of the roads.
Q. What is the hardness of our water?
A. 13 GPG (grains per gallon)
Q. Does the Township add fluoride to the water?
A. No. The water does contain some fluoride that is
found naturally.
Q. Does our water come from the East Orange Water Reserve?
A. Overall, no. Most of the water comes from our own
wells which are spread throughout the Township and are interconnected.
So, if there is a problem with one well, you still have access and
volume. Water pressure may be affected during times of high usage. Water
pressure levels could temporarily change.
