ABOUT THE ZONING BOARD

The Zoning Board of Adjustment is an appeals agency through which applicants may request variances or exceptions to certain zoning requirements. It weighs requests for relief against the broader public need, while maintaining the integrity of the Master Plan and Zoning Ordinance. For example, a variance may be granted to permit construction outside the building envelope if the particular property is impacted by steep slopes, wetlands, flood plain or unusual shape.
