Seniors: Transportation & Help during COVID-19

The Township of Livingston is offering transportation and resources for local senior citizens in need of assistance.

Transportation for Medical Appointments and Grocery Shopping through SYLS

Livingston Senior, Youth & Leisure Services has partnered with Essex County to offer transportation for seniors to and from grocery stores and medical appointments. For groceries, rides will be available to ShopRite and Kings Food Market in Livingston.

To request transportation, call the SYLS office at 973-535-7925 and select option 8 for the operator. You must call before 2:00 pm to be scheduled for the following day.

Rides will be available between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

SYLS will coordinate local transportation options through services provided by Essex County. Please note that this service is separate from Livingston’s regular Senior Transportation program, which is suspended through March 30, 2020 (subject to extension) along with all other Township events, programs, and activities. Callers should not dial the Senior Transportation number to request rides to grocery stores or medical appointments during this time.

Help with Obtaining Groceries and Supplies through Welfare & Human Services (Health Department)

If you know of any senior resident of Livingston who has limited ability in obtaining groceries or essential supplies, please contact the Township social worker, Ana Millan at 973-535-7961 ext. 231 or email her at amillan@livingstonnj.org. She will connect the senior with a local volunteer who can provide assistance.

This service is for seniors who do not have any local family support or help. The social worker will assess whether the senior’s need is emergent in order to protect both the seniors and the volunteers who are putting themselves at risk in order to help their community.
