Hydrant Flushing

Fire hydrant being flushed as part of an important routine maintenance program

The Livingston Water Department flushes hydrants on a rolling basis year round from late March to early November. Flushing cannot occur during freezing weather as it will leave icy patches on the roadway. We are required by the Water Quality Accountability Act to flush every hydrant in the system annually. There are approximately 1,300 hydrants in the system.

Flushing typically occurs during daytime hours so there is a possibility you may experience air or discolored water or other water quality issues if flushing has recently occurred in your area. Please see Discolored Water, Reduced Pressure & Other Quality Issues page for more information.
